Chandraprabha Vati is one of Ayurveda's most prescribed classical formulations — a 37-ingredient compound centred on Shilajit and Guggulu, traditionally used for urinary comfort, prostate health and metabolic balance. Because it is classical, no company owns it: Patanjali, Baidyanath, Dabur, regional pharmacies and we at Prachyam all make it from the same reference formula. That is exactly why the label matters more than the brand name.
The formula is fixed — the execution is not
The composition of Chandraprabha Vati is laid down in the classical literature (our batch follows the Sharangadhara Samhita lineage — the reference is printed on the product page). What varies between manufacturers is sourcing, processing and honesty:
- Shilajit quality — the heart of the formula. Purified (shodhita) Shilajit is expensive; cut-rate versions economise here first.
- Loha Bhasma preparation — the classical iron preparation requires repeated calcination cycles. Properly made bhasma passes classical tests; shortcuts don't.
- Complete ingredient disclosure — 37 ingredients should mean 37 listed ingredients, with botanical names.
- AYUSH licence, GMP certification, batch and expiry — the legal basics that make a label accountable.
A fair comparison of your options
Large classical houses (Baidyanath, Dabur, Zandu) offer wide availability and legacy processes. Patanjali is usually the lowest-price option on the shelf. Smaller GMP manufacturers like us compete on transparency — we publish the full ingredient table with each herb linked to its own referenced monograph, name the classical text, and print batch, expiry and licence on the pack. Any brand that does all of that is a reasonable choice; any brand that does none of it isn't, at any price.
Classical usage
The traditional adult dose is 1–2 tablets twice daily with warm water or milk, after food — the exact guidance for our batch is on the product page. Chandraprabha Vati is classically indicated for urinary discomfort, prostate heaviness, and Prameha (metabolic/urinary disorders). It contains Shilajit and Loha Bhasma (iron): people with iron-overload conditions, kidney disease, or on diabetes medication should take it only under a doctor's supervision, and it is not for pregnancy.
