About Arjun Chal Churna
Arjuna (Terminalia arjuna) is the classical heart herb of Ayurveda. Its bark is described in the Charaka and Sushruta Samhitas and the Bhavaprakasha Nighantu as Hridya (good for the heart), Kashaya (astringent), Sheeta (cooling), Sandhaniya (joining broken tissue) and Raktastambhaka (staunching bleeding). Vagbhata names Arjuna Ksheerapaka, Arjuna bark boiled in milk, as a heart tonic. What it is: a single-herb powder, 100% dried Arjuna stem bark. It is astringent and cooling, and is described as balancing Pitta and Kapha. How Ayurveda uses it: as a daily heart tonic, for palpitations, breathlessness on exertion and weakness linked to the heart; for healthy circulation; and externally and internally for the recovery of fractures and wounds and staunching bleeding, because of its astringent quality. How to take it (Arjuna Ksheerapaka): boil 3–5 g of powder in one cup of milk and one cup of water until it reduces to about one cup, strain and drink warm, once or twice a day. It can also be taken with warm water. Heart symptoms are medical first. Chest pain or pressure, breathlessness at rest, fainting or a racing, irregular pulse need emergency care. Arjuna bark has been studied in small human trials in heart conditions with some encouraging results, but it does not replace cardiac care. If you take heart, blood-pressure or blood-thinning medicines, do not stop them, and ask your cardiologist before adding Arjuna, as it may add to their effects.
Classical reference: Bhavaprakash Nighantu; Arjuna as Hridya described in Charaka & Sushruta Samhita.

Arjun Chal Churna — common questions
What is Arjun Chal Churna used for?
Arjun Chal Churna, Arjuna bark powder, is traditionally used in Ayurveda as a Hridya, heart-nourishing herb, for heart weakness, palpitations and breathlessness on exertion, and for stamina. It is also classed as Sandhaniya and Raktastambhaka, used for tissue repair and staunching bleeding. It supports the heart alongside, never instead of, medical care.
How do I make Arjuna Ksheerapaka (Arjuna milk)?
Add 3–5 g of Arjun Chal Churna to one cup of milk and one cup of water. Boil gently until it reduces to about one cup, strain and drink it warm, once or twice a day after meals. This is the classical Arjuna Ksheerapaka described by Vagbhata. People with diabetes should skip the jaggery; others can add a little for taste.
Can Arjuna be taken with blood pressure or heart medicines?
Only with your cardiologist's agreement. Arjuna may lower blood pressure and heart rate slightly and may affect clotting, so it can add to beta-blockers, blood-pressure tablets and blood thinners. Never stop a prescribed heart medicine yourself. Keep about an hour between Arjuna and other tablets, and monitor your blood pressure.
Is Arjuna suitable for people with high cholesterol or blood pressure?
Small human studies suggest Arjuna bark may help some heart and blood-pressure measures, and it is widely used in India for heart health. The evidence is limited, and it is not a substitute for statins or blood-pressure medicines when these are needed. Diet, activity, not smoking and regular check-ups remain the foundation.
When should I see a doctor instead?
Get emergency care for chest pain, pressure or tightness, especially with sweating, nausea or pain spreading to the arm or jaw; breathlessness at rest or lying flat; fainting; or a very fast or irregular pulse. These can signal a heart attack or arrhythmia. Arjuna is only for supportive, long-term care after a doctor has assessed the heart.
What are the side effects of Arjun Chal Churna?
It is generally well tolerated. Because it is astringent, some people notice constipation, mild stomach upset or a headache. It may lower blood pressure and blood sugar slightly. Avoid it in pregnancy and breastfeeding unless your doctor advises it.
Is Arjuna a classical Ayurvedic herb?
Yes. Arjuna is described in the Charaka and Sushruta Samhitas and the Bhavaprakasha Nighantu as Hridya, Kashaya and Sandhaniya, and Vagbhata gives Arjuna Ksheerapaka as a heart tonic. It is the main herb of Arjunarishta and Prabhakar Vati's processing liquid. Prachyam's Arjun Chal Churna is the single, pure bark powder.
